MITT 2019 results: a matter of big expert interest, broad region coverage and strong state support
MITT is ranked in the Top five world’s largest tourist exhibitions and is always highly estimated by the international community.
This year, MITT presented its exposition within a territory of 40 thousand sq. m, welcoming participants from 1 523 companies and 229 countries and regions. 22 289 visitors came to the three-day exhibition from 92 countries, and nearly 20 thousand (19 962) of them are the representatives of 80 Russian regions.
According to tradition, tourism industry specialists met, networked and made new business contacts. Exhibition stands were accompanied by the bright presentations of tourist products, which livened up the presented tourist destinations with national spirit.
The exhibition attracted great interest at the state and interstate level. The Moscow Committee for tourism was one of the event supporters.
On March 12, the MITT opening ceremony was visited by foreign delegations, official representatives of Russian public authorities, managers of big companies and tourist associations. Among the guests were ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic missions of Italy, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Croatia, Jordan, Israel, South African Republic, Zambia, Myanmar, Ecuador, Indonesia, Finland, and many other countries.
Exhibition guests and participants were welcomed in the speeches of the Russian State Duma Deputy Elena Drapeko, the Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy Igor Fomin, the Russian State Duma Deputy Sergey Krivonosov, the President of the Russian Union of Travel Industry Sergey Shpilko, the Deputy Chairman of the Moscow Committee on Tourism Tatyana Sharshavitskaya, the Minister of Economic Development of Altai Krai Pavel Dityatev, and other special guests.
The speakers underlined the importance of the MITT exhibition in the world tourist industry. Elena Drapeko expressed confidence that the exhibition will promote further development of cultural and tourist ties among the countries. According to Sergey Shpilko, MITT is one of the world’s largest tourist exhibitions, at which you can hear the heartbeat of tourist and hospitality industry, and where important decisions are made.
The sponsor of the opening ceremony Oman presented its tourist facilities. The sultanate delegation was headed by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Sultanate of Oman in Russia Mr. Yousef Issa Al Zadjali. The Director General of Tourism Promotion of the Oman Ministry of Tourism Salim Aday Al-Mamari welcomed the guests at the opening ceremony.
MITT 2019 paid special attention to domestic tourism. 52 Russian regions presented their tourist products to the participating professionals. Among them were the MITT newcomers — the Republics of Kalmykia and Mordovia, Kursk, Astrakhan, Tyumen regions and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug. Altai Krai had a status of the partnering region for the sixth year in a row.
On the closing day, MITT was visited by the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Olga Golodets and the Head of Rostourism Zarina Doguzova. The delegation had a look at the expositions of regions presented in the Russian pavilion. Olga Golodets made a pointed reference to the uniqueness of Russian regions and good growth rates of tourist flow in 2018, and promised to give support: “We will do utmost to support the development of tourism in Russia.”
The partner country Bahrain joined the foreign exposition of the exhibition for the first time, having presented its hotels and host agencies to the Russian travellers. Chief Executive Officer of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority and a member of the royal family, His Excellency Shaikh Khaled Bin Humood Al Khalifa made a speech at the opening ceremony.
MITT 2019 Business Programme
A special attention should be paid to the expanded business agenda of the exhibition. It included events of absolutely new formats — from interactive foresight and pitch sessions to practical master classes; new speakers and new subjects made the content even more powerful and interesting. In total, there were 5437 listeners, which is 38% more than in previous year.
On March 12, the conference “Enhancing the Effectiveness of Tourist Information Centres. Best Russian and International Experience” was held. The speakers studied cases in a master-class format and made the roadmap of cooperation of travel agencies and visitor centres. Within the MITT Digital conference, a pitch session “VR/AR Technologies as Innovative Promotional Tool for Moscow Tourist Capacity” was held, with the assistance of the Moscow Committee on Tourism. Experts discussed pros and cons of using added and virtual reality technologies in the tourist sphere. The participants paid special attention to the project by Digging Dip — the NOON virtual reality binocular. Each visitor could have a look at the virtual copy of Moscow.
On March 13, the awarding ceremony of the “Unique Moscow — a Step to Wow Tourism” contest was organized with the assistance of the Moscow Committee on Tourism. The other important event of the second day was the Trends for Tourism Industry Development — Travel Trends Conference. Its participants discussed global and Russian tendencies and scenarios of tourism development. The Leading Analyst of Euromonitor International Maria Milashevich, the Director General of Persona Grata law agency Georgy Mokhov, and other speakers presented their reports.
The Challenges of the Russian Tourism Market — Market Shocks panel discussion was a big success. Critical questions of market players were answered by the top managers of the Russian leading travel agencies: Yana Muromova (ANEX Tour), Dmitry Arutyunov (ART TOUR), Taras Demura (TUI Russia), Evgeny Danilovich (Sletat.Ru), Anna Podgornaya (Pegas Touristik), Oleg Melnik (TBG and Hot Tours), Dmitry Shershnev (Tez Tour), Aleksan Mkrtchyan (Pink Elephant). The participants of the foresight session “Travel Business 2025-2030” defined the future of the tourist products, the future target consumer, and the necessary changes to be made in the management of travel agency that will help to save and develop business.
On March 14, two conferences were held: MITT MICE discussed the challenges of the companies working in the sphere of business tourism, and MITT 365 — Diversification of Tourism Product presented 10 case studies of how to shield from competitors and to be demanded in the market all year round.
MITT Academy Educational Program was one of the most anticipated and demanded events among the heads of travel agencies. Seminars and master classes held for three days were devoted to legal issues of travel companies, accounting and finance, Internet promotion and sales boosting.
All events of the business programme were full-house.
The organizers of the event — the CEO of ITE Expo International Dmitry Zavgorodny and the Director of the MITT exhibition Artyom Chernyshov shared their plans for exhibition expansion. In 2020, MITT will be held in the new and modern Crocus Expo space, the largest one in Eastern Europe. This change of exhibition space will allow increasing quality of the services provided to exhibitors, housing the exhibition in large pavilions, and accommodating the event visitors with comfort.
In 2020, the 27th Moscow International Travel & Tourism Exhibition MITT will be held on 17–19 March.
